Do I need Suspension Repair? Signs that Say Yes

For smooth and safe driving, it's very important that your car's suspension is in great shape. When you first suspect that a suspension problem is brewing, you'll want to have a mechanic take a look so that any issues can be identified. At Rennen Imports, our local mechanics specialize in all facets of European auto repair. If your Euro car is showing signs of suspension trouble, don't hesitate to come and see us.

Common Symptoms of Suspension Trouble

A classic sign of a suspension problem is that the car starts bouncing excessively due to any little bump along the road. If you hear clunking noises when hitting bumps, then you've got a sign of a damaged spring. Another indication of a bad spring is that your car sits lower in one corner.

Sometimes, signs of suspension failure will arise when you hit the brakes. A suspension issue can make it feel like your car is nose-diving while the brakes are engaged. And if your suspension isn't working like it should, then your vehicle could take longer to arrive at a full stop after you begin braking.

A few other signs of suspension trouble mean you should get to the shop. For one, if you get down and can see that your shocks have oil leaking onto them, then it's likely time to replace them. Also, suspension trouble can lead to uneven tire wear, which can then cause bald spots to develop on tires. And if it feels like your vehicle is drifting when you go around corners, then you may have a suspension issue.

Fails The Bounce Test

If you've started to suspect a suspension problem, then it's worth doing a quick test. First off, you'll want to make totally sure that your car is securely parked and won't roll. After that, go to your car's front end and press down hard on it. Then rock it twice and release. Next, go to the rear and do the exact same thing. Upon letting go, your car shouldn't bounce on its own more than three times. But if it does, then it'll be worth getting your suspension inspected.
